Here are some great pictures from our Halloween Fun Packed day. We had so much fun. We had our Parade. Many passerby's waved and honked their horns at us. I saw many smiling adults. It is such a nice feeling knowing that we were able to make people smile on that day. Sometimes it the simple things in life that really make your day.

This week is going to be packed full of Halloween Fun Filled Activities. Wed. will be Orange Day. Friday will be our Halloween Party Day. Everyone can wear their costumes. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can have a Halloween Parade around the block. #halloween #childcare Today we took our annual trip over to Community Congregational Church, in Villa Park. It is a short walk, to visit a pumpkin patch. We love staying local, buying local, and supporting programs in the neighborhood. One of the great benefits of a Home Daycare, we do things in the community, love being part of a community. We met former daycare clients at the patch. Then saw one of our (Doc & I) friends on the way back. This is where we live, this is where the children live, and we love being part of it.
What do you see? Look at the following pictures, what do you see? Now let's look at the items through the eyes of a child. A child who has a whole lot of imagination. Here is my question to you as I tell you what the child thought these items were, or pretending them to be. Why? Why, did they pretend that these items where what she was saying they were? How did it happen? How did she figure this out, what cause her to think of these items in THAT way? Before I say more, here are the items... I have been working on reducing the items, or number of items in daycare. Going with the idea that less is more. Just by watching the interaction of these children the past week has really brought the concept to where I have been trying to go with the idea. Less is More. Sure we have play phones, inside, but not outside. I could of gone and got the phones, but why? They did not need them. They used what was handy. Used there imagination. Thought outside the box. Critical Thinking. Representation.
Going out and buying the most expensive toys, everything that we think they need for the best education, and having it constantly available to them, is that what is really best. So, let them build on their imagination. Think outside the box. Reduce the items in your classroom, see what happens. Sometimes the best activities are the unplanned activities. Yesterday on our walk, we found leaves. The same leaves but different sizes. Which lead us to look for other items that are the same but different. Used words like small. Medium, and Large. Today we found a mouse in the yard. They wanted to feed it. But of course we did not. We did watch it ad it moved around the yard. So look for the unplan activities and go with it. Take clues from the children's interest. Keep your eyes and ears open. You never know what you could discover. |
